How to Get Effects on Google Duo

Google Duo allows users to add fun visual effects, filters, and masks during video calls or video messages. These effects can make conversations more entertaining and expressive. However, in recent updates, many of Duo’s features have been integrated into Google Meet, since Duo was merged into the Meet platform.

Below are the ways you can use effects when using Google Duo/Meet.

1. Use Effects During a Video Call

You can add filters and masks while you are on a call.

Steps:

  1. Open the Google Meet app (formerly Google Duo).

  2. Start or join a video call.

  3. Tap the Effects or sparkle icon on the screen.

  4. Browse through available filters, masks, and backgrounds.

  5. Tap an effect to apply it instantly.

The effect will stay active until you remove it or switch to another one.

2. Add Effects to Video Messages

Google Duo also lets you send video messages with fun effects.

Steps:

  1. Open the Google Meet app.

  2. Tap New or choose a contact.

  6. Record your message and send it.

This feature lets you personalize messages with animated effects.

3. Try Background Effects

Some versions of the app allow background blur or virtual backgrounds.

Steps:

  1. Start a video call.

  2. Tap the Effects or Background icon.

  3. Choose Blur or a virtual background.

  4. The background will change automatically.

This helps improve privacy and appearance during calls.

Why You Might Not See Effects

Sometimes the effects option may not appear. This can happen if:

  • Your app is outdated

  • Your device doesn’t support AR effects

  • The feature is not available in your region

Updating the app usually fixes the problem.

How to Get More Effects

To access the latest filters and effects:

  • Update the app from Google Play Store or Apple App Store

  • Restart the app after updating

  • Ensure your phone has the latest operating system

Quick Tip:
Since **Google Duo has been merged into Google Meet, most new effects and features now appear inside the Google Meet app.
